DecorBook Classic : My Fall Rooms

Happy Fall! Don't you love a change of seasons? And for me, fall is my favorite. I admit I jumped the gun this year, decorating the house technically the week before fall begain on September 22. If you're like me, you've gathered your most beloved decor over the years so it doesn't take long to decorate. I changed all the pillows into dark mustard linen covers and get into a few boxes labeled "FALL." Easy peasy. This year, I only had one new addition. Let's take a look.

Above is the tableau on the table in my entryway. On one side of the table, in the background, is a small oil my mom had hung in her living room. I love that it's filled the autumnal trees.

See all those little acorns on the other side of the table? A box of 80 came from CrateandBarrel years ago. The other, almost identical 100 were bought on Amazon this year ($16). Like their more expensive sisters, wooden acorns are topped by actual acorn caps.

And that wooden shoe? It came from an 1970's estate sale in Portland, OR and I know I paid just a dollar or two for it. I wish I could read the carver's name but it's clear it was made in 1914.

This is a new arrangement - scattering my pear collection in one space - ceramic, plaster and plasticy.

I bought this old hat rack ($15) at an estate sale in Moraga a few years ago. Hung in the kitchen, it changes seasonally. This fall, a cornucopia Mary gave me, a wreath from IKEA and part of a left ove garland turned into a casual wreath.

This little woven screen has been in the basement the last few years. I bought it ($20) at a Monterrery swap meet we saw while on our way home from the Monterey Jazz Festival one late September years ago. Last week, I saw a picture of a room where the designer doubled up on screeens. Don't you love an aha moment?

A few rooms were painted in early September. After this closet was repainted, I had a problem with unruly comforters on the bottom shelf until I wrapped them like Christmas gifts. Neat and tidy.

In my study, in what started out as an IKEA bookcase is loaded with books and some of my favorite fall stuff.

"She" got her fall necklaces last week. In doing some research, I think this is a bust of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. She's often nicknamed "Lady Buddha."

My felted pumpkin bear also makes an appearance every fall. Purchased at a Hood River fall festival, he's about 50-years old now. I hope you can take a little time to bring fall into your rooms this year. I'm going to be taking a bit of a hiatus but I'll be back at the end of October. In the meantime, Happy Sunday and go '9ers!
