Happy Hour : What's on your Bedside Table?

Every been in a restaurant when it turns "Happy Hour?" You notice the mood instantly changes as everyone is ready for fun. Whenever I'm having a Bad Hair Day, my cure is always a personal Happy Hour. Of course, I'm hopeless addicted to interiors; so for me, this hour is all about decorating. In this series, we'll look at some quick and happy mood changers for our very own Happy Hour. Each should take about an hour - a mere 60 minutes - to perk up our minds and our rooms. Let's get the party started.

I talk a good story but my bedside nightstand has never looked as pretty as in this picture. For this Happy Hour, I'm proposing taking a look - organize, add or toss - anything to calm your bedside nightstand. It 's true - the nightstand is one of the most notorious clutter magnets in our rooms. A kitchen junk drawer is the other. But let's face it, it's called a "junk drawer" for a reason. Let's take a look at the art of the nightstand.

As per this 2018 photo, my sweet P had a spartan bedside tabletop. Always. Just the bare minimum. A landline phone was there for emergencies. He charged his phone in another room, never taking it to bed.

Now that I've moved to P's side, I've also taken over his two-drawer chest next to the bed. I took this photo yesterday of my actual bedside tabletop. A coaster for glass of water, a phone cord, my charging iPad and a medical device.

I keep my "clutter" in the top drawer. Kleenex, coasters, my journal, fireplace remote, Sleep Number bed remote, lotion. After the earthquake last week - my house was less than one mile from the epicenter - I checked to make sure I have fresh batteries both in the radio and in the emergency lantern plus made sure that my air horn is in working order. Yesterday morning, I took everything out, tossed a bunch of stuff (when was the last time I needed a 25' tape measure in my bedroom?) - and instantly felt calmer.

After a few months of complete cord chaos, I remembered  the back of the bottom drawer is cut lower so cords can be pulled out from the back, happily living in their own hidden mess. I love not stumbling over device cords.

And somewhere around my bed is my iPad foam stand - honestly, I couldn't live without it.

This is a great tip sheet when decorating your bedside tabletop.

In the drawer above, an Amazon - "Valet Tray, Built in Wireless Charging Pad, Nightstand Organizer" ($35). There are a zillion types from which to choose.

Online retailers are filled with solutions for our devices and their cords.

Whew! Now that I've cleaned out my drawer, maybe today's Happy Hour would best be spent on just making my bedside tabletop pretty. Whatever you you choose to do, Happy Sunday!
