TWEAKS+inspiration : Endless Summer Projects

The game's afoot in my rooms this summer. So far, absolutely nothing is finished. Usually, I have everything on site before Jesus and crew comes in to do the work. This summer, projects are small - just finishing touches that complete some rooms. Right now, I'm in a holding pattern waiting for skilled trades. Plus I have two "improvement" ideas you can easily do yourself. Let's take a look.

I wanted to tweak my primary closet some. In June, my electrician removed a fluorescent ceiling light replacing it with a "girly" fixture that fills me with joy. It also got a dimmer switch when I don't need bright light. The closet is now awaiting a ceiling repair and a new paint job.

After a 8-week lead time, a custom-built vanity was installed in a guest room last week. Unfortunately, my house (built in 1990) could not accomodate a prefab vanity. This week, the fabricator will lay down quartz, followed by the plumber installing a new faucet and then Jesus' crew to paint.

And while the plumber is here, the failing primary bathroom faucets will be replaced. I chose a different style from the guest bathroom as I want them to match the newer bathtub faucet and sprayer.

Oh, and a new kitchen faucet. Purchased in May (a friend held it up so I could take a photo), it's also been waiting for the plumber. When he arrives, it will be a happy day. If you're thinking of a do-it-yourself project before summer's end, I have two suggestions for your rooms. I've done these during my house "re-do" which started in 2022. Small details see, to make a room looked more polished.

I should have looked into sturdy metal vent covers years ago. Our old 1990's version were so noisy. These are whisper quiet, don't break when stood on and I like their look. I replaced all the vents in the house.

Four of these heavy metal cover vents cost about $50 so they are affordable. There come in different colors, sizes and styles.

This is such a small thing but for me, it makes a big difference. See the cover on the light switch? No screws!

I didn't know these existed until Jesus mentioned. The new covers are affordble, easy to put on and take off (I did it myself for each switch and outlet in my house) and look so clean without their screws showing. For me, it's the little things that bring me joy. I'll be back with finished projects sooner than later (I hope). In the meantime, enjoy your Sunday!
