Happy Hour : Styling Bookcases

Every been in a restaurant when it turns "Happy Hour?" You notice the mood instantly changes as everyone is ready for fun. Whenever I'm having a Bad Hair Day, my cure is always a personal Happy Hour. Of course, I'm hopeless addicted to interiors; so for me, this hour is all about decorating. In this series, we'll look at some quick and happy mood changers for our very own Happy Hour. Each should take about an hour - a mere 60 minutes - to perk up our minds and our rooms. Let's get the party started.

Here's a Happy Hour that will give you plenty of pat-on-the-back satisfaction. Styling a bookcase is a quick change you can make to any room. By editing your books and adding objects / framed photos / art, you'll have a new look without costing a cent. And while a bookshelf is the practical place to store your curated books, let's look at how to create even more interest by using handsome styling.

Organizing books by color has been around a few years but it seems fresh in a white room.

Any room would benefit by such shelving. How about cookbooks on such a wall in a kitchen?

Monochromatic books, art and accessories - lots of "calm" clutter.

A wallpaper backing creates interest. You could use contact paper, gift wrap or stencils.

A considered collection : Blue&White, art framed in similar frames, neutral colors.

I love the less is more. I love the black and white. I love this bookcase styling.

Gorgeous - dark and moody.

A color edited bookcase provides a calm place to rest the eye.

What's not to like?

A bookcase styling focused on shapes and color rather than practicality.

If you're like me, these styling ideas have got my mind percolating. Hope you'll take everything off a bookshelf, go through your house for the best pieces to display and have a go at it. After all, we've got plenty of time. Here's to Happy Hour!
