DecorBook Classic : Flower Power

50 some years ago, British models Jean Shrimpton (top) and Twiggy were everywhere and truly the first Super Models (although that term hadn't been coined). As you can see, they were sometimes covered in flowers. Flowers dominated fashion and decor. Let's have some fun seeing what was happening back then and how Flower Power is still with us today. It's amazing that such movements are still influencing our rooms.

I still can barely look at anything "burnt orange," but flowered wallpaper was a '60s hit.

Don't you love a mural as a work of art?

A dramatic bed of flowers decorates a hallway. Flower Power is still thriving but in fresh, modern ways. Think about flowers in your rooms and be sure to wear a flower in your hair. (Did I just write that?) Enjoy the last days of August.

Jean Shrimpton was my favorite. In the late 60's, she was making an appearance at Portland's downtown Meier & Frank store and I cut over from my after school job to see her. As the event was almost beginning, I jumped into a closing elevator and realized I was standing with Jean Shrimpton, some older man and the glove wearing elevator attendant. So close to perfection.
