Happy Hour : Quick Slipcover

Every been in a restaurant when it turns "Happy Hour?" You notice the mood instantly changes as everyone is ready for fun. Whenever I'm having a Bad Hair Day, my cure is always a personal Happy Hour. Of course, I'm hopeless addicted to interiors; so for me, this hour is all about decorating. In this series, we'll look at some quick and happy mood changers for our very own Happy Hour. Each should take about an hour - a mere 60 minutes - to perk up our minds and our rooms. Let's get the party started.

For this Happy Hour, I suggest a practical, luxurious and easy-to-sew slipcover. Maybe you've got a small table, footrest, ottoman or bench that could use an update. Sewing a quick slipcover is an easy solution. Rather than buying fabric, consider using something you've got on hand - a table cloth, curtain panel, bedspread. Here's what I did for my Happy Hour. The old bench in our principal bathroom didn't whisper, Spa Time. My solution was a no hem slipcover. Easy Peasy. If you can sew a straight line, here's how.

This bench (Marshall's, ages ago) was in need of a makeover in our principle bathroom. For a spa feeling, use bath towels as they the most inexpensive, easy-to-wash, luxurious "fabric."

Using 2 bath towels as fabric (Costco, $12 each), cut and sew the sides to fit around the bench. Cut so that the towel edging serves as a finished hem.

Using a third towel for the top, cut and pin in place.

Before cutting one end of the top to the sides, sew the top on three sides. That way, there's room to adjust for a snug fit.

Completed! It actually took me 1 hour and 11 minutes, but let's call it a Happy Hour! Can't tell you how happy I am when I walk into the bathroom. Now, if I could get an on call hair dresser, masseuse and manicurist, I'd be all set.
