For this Happy Hour, how about bringing back May Day?  I love the idea of May 1st being a day of celebration.  In the 1950's, my Mom would make little flower bouquets that my brother and I would deliver to our Portland neighbors.  We'd hang the flowers on the door, knock as loud as we could and then run fast. "Happy May Day" was meant to be a surprise.  This year, why not bring back this sweet tradition?...

Happy Lunar New Year!  Did you know that the Lunar New Year is celebrated by a quarter of the world's population?  It's fun to see local flower markets bulging with quince and other flowering branches. To get into the spirit, our entry (above) has an urn of Magnolia blossoms.  Even Costco features kumquats and money trees, pots of orchids and lucky bamboo.  Our next door neighbor has huge red lanterns an...

This Christmas, I was all set for a natural Scandinavian Christmas.  Connie even sent homemade Fattigman (Norwegian cookies) so I was definitely in the mood.  But as I opened the 6 boxes of Christmas decorations left from my summer purge, it seemed like a good idea to just get everything out and see what was left.  Santas & their assorted red fun gathered on the 2nd floor so the main floor could be left...

The spectacular Ruby tree.  Each tree has multiple...

I'll admit it.  I've got a "thing" for Santa.  And I've had a lot of help collecting Santas over the years - Santas from P and my mom, trip souvenir Santas, Connie's painted wooden Santas and an office party game Santa where no one would "steal" from me as everyone knew how I felt about Santa.  No wonder it's the "Year of the Santa" in our rooms this year.

This year, I've corralled all...

Some of my favorite Easter treats can be found at Cost Plus World Market : Italian Panettones for breakfast and Nestler paper eggs stuffed with treats and these Italian cakes.  Aren't they wrapped beautifully?  They come in two flavors - Hazelnut Glazed and Tropical Fruit, on sale for $7.79 - and would be a perfect hostess gift.

"La Torinese Hazelnut Colomba Cake....

Merry Christmas!  For home this year, I thought a frosty winter wonderland - at least the most one can do in the Bay Area - might be fun.  All it took was minimal shopping.  At Joanne's Fabrics, a woman asked me what I was making.  "Oh, just getting supplies for my Christmas colors this year," I replied.  We both looked into my cart and started laughing as all we saw was black heavy felt and ribbon in gr...
